On 22nd November 1535, a Frenchman from the "Langue" of France, Didier De Saint
Jaille, held in esteem for his great prudence, was raised to the office of Grandmaster. His name was known well.
He received news of his election while he was in France. He soon made preparations for his return but on the way
back he fell ill at Montepellier and died on 26th September 1536 before reaching the Island. Jacques Pelliquen,
who acted as Lieutenant of the Order, had to take the important decision of attacking and destroying El Haid Tower
near Tripoli. The attack was carried out with complete success by 700 Maltese and Calabrian soldiers, as well as
by 150 knights led by the Knight Bottigella.
