On Wednesday 25th November, His Excellency Dr. George Abela President of Malta, visited San Andrea School. His reason for visiting was that it was the twentieth anniversary of the Commissioners for Children’s Rights. To celebrate this anniversary, a trailer was set up and taken to a number of primary schools around Malta, one of which was San Andrea Early and Middle School. After the primary school students watched a video in the trailer about their rights, the mascot, Guginu, explained their rights in a simple and friendly way. The President was invited to see Early and Middle School. Once at the School, Dr. Abela was also invited to visit the Senior School section. Here, Emmanuel Buttigieg (the vice-school captain) and I, together with the Head and Assistant Head of Senior School showed the President around. We first took him to the administration area and to the staff room where he met some of the staff. We explained a few of the many activities that take place at San Andrea and he was impressed. Emmanuel and I also took the President to the library to see all the students that were reading and studying there. Mr. Paul Borg (physics teacher) showed the President the school’s Energy Terrace and explained its function. Emmanuel and I also explained to him the solar water heater which was built by previous San Andrea form 5 students. Before leaving, Dr. George Abela signed our guest book and left a short note praising the school.
