San Andrea students in worldwide event - 08/12/2009

As most of you have read, heard and seen on the local and international media, our school was involved in an international project as part of the World Aids Day events that were being organised globally, over the past few weeks.

With "All You Need Is Love" Product RED through Starbucks Coffee Company, united artists from around the world for a simultaneous, live performance of this legendary hit as a single global concert. 195 countries took part in this project also known as Starbucksloveproject.

Product Red is a brand licensed to partner companies.
It is an initiative begun by U2 frontman Bono and Bobby Shriver of DATA to raise money for the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. Each partner company creates a product with the Product Red logo. In return for the opportunity to increase its own revenue through the Product Red products that it sells, a percentage of the profit is given to the Global Fund.

The Global Fund, the recipient of (RED) funds, is the world's leading funder of programs to fight AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria, with approved funding of US$11.5 billion for programs in 136 countries. The Global Fund is a public-private partnership, governed by representatives of governments, the private sector and civil society from all over the world. So far, programs supported by the Global Fund have averted more than 2.5 million deaths by providing AIDS treatment for 1.75 million people, TB treatment for 3.9 million people, and distributing more than 59 million insecticide-treated bed nets for the prevention of malaria worldwide.

The direction from the UK was left in the hands of Chris Palmer, commissioned by Gorgeous (UK).

Malta was represented by Ira Losco supported by San Andrea School students, an event coordinated by Winston Azzopardi & Howard Keith (Jagged House).

The school crew, coordinated by Mr.David Micallef included:
