    Library Mission Statement:

The San Andrea School Library was established to support the curriculum of the senior school in which it is located. The mission of San Andrea Senior School Library is to ensure that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information. The school library supports the educational curriculum, collaborates with the teaching staff in creating assignments and projects which utilizes the library, fosters reading and literacy in all students and teaches patrons how to locate, evaluate, synthesize, and effectively use the information.

    Library Vision Statement:

The students of San Andrea Senior School will:

  • have the information they need to succeed at school and in their personal lives;
  • have reading, viewing and listening materials and programmes that stimulate their thinking, enhance their knowledge of the world and improve the quality of their leisure time;
  • develop their research skills and be able to utilize the facilities comfortably without assistance;
  • enjoy high level of access to electronic information resources and develop the technological, information seeking, and information evaluation skills needed in an increasingly complex world;
  • discover the joy of reading and develop a love of learning;
  • think of the San Andrea Senior School Library as a focal point of school life that connects and unites the students and staff;
  • use San Andrea Senior School Library’s resources and services.

The staff of San Andrea Senior School will:

  • have reading, viewing and listening materials and programmes they need to support their curriculum;
  • collaborate with the librarian in designing assignments and projects that utilize the library as a media centre;
  • have reading, viewing and listening materials and programmes that stimulate their thinking, enhance their knowledge of the advances in their subject areas;
  • enjoy high level of access to electronic information resources and develop the technological, information seeking, and information evaluation skills needed in the classroom;
  • think of the San Andrea Senior School Library as a focal point of school life that connects and unites the students and staff;
  • use San Andrea Senior School Library’s resources and services and encourage their students and fellow staff members to do so as well.

    Library Policies and Procedures:

  • Students may borrow up to two books for two weeks and may renew books for an additional two weeks. Reference/Melitensia material cannot be loaned out of the library
  • There are no fines for overdue books, but fines will be incurred if materials are damaged or lost (cost to replace item)
  • Books may be reserved for students by the librarian for no longer than a week
  • Newspapers and periodicals cannot be taken out of the library
  • Library computers may be used to research the Internet, or type a paper. Students may not use them for gaming, e-mailing, IMs, blogging, etc.
  • Students requiring to use the computers during break times are requested to book their session the day before
  • Students are to ask for assistance when using the photocopier
  • During break times students are allowed to stay in the library only if:
  • they read and work quietly
  • they are doing research

    Library rules:

  • Be considerate of others who are using the library
  • No food, gum or drinks are allowed in the library
  • Show care when using all library resources
  • Do not move chairs from their appointed places
  • Proper dress code and appropriate language are always in style
