If you don’t get voted to be in the student council, try again, be determined and always fight for what’s right. There will always be those who want to put you down, but you always push yourself up and try again, no matter how hard it gets.

Ilyse Meli - Grade 12.1 - VICE-CAPTAIN

Why did you want to join the Student Council?

I’ve always enjoyed giving back to school. I also knew that it was going to be an enriching experience packed with challenges but also fun.

What's the one thing you'd help improve at school?

One thing i’d like to improve on is cleanliness. It’s beneficial for all the students to clean up after-themselves because not only will it allow them to enjoy their breaks in a clean environment but it also reflects their respect towards the cleaners, educators and school.

How do you help others at school?

At school I help students by answering any queries they would have. Not only this but i would offer a helping hand with anything they might need. I also like to help teachers in anything they might need to make their life easier.

What do you hope to achieve as a Student Council member this year?

One main goal being to make an impact to the school community. Whether it’s by fun activities, educational opportunities and making the school safer for everyone.

What advice would you give to younger students who want to be leaders?

I would tell younger students to follow their heart and not care too much about others’ opinions because at the end of the day, whatever you’re doing is for yourself. Always remember to keep moving forward and never let others put you down.

Nathan Azzopardi Muscat - Grade 12.1 - CAPTAIN

Why did you want to join the Student Council?

I have always believed in the fundamental importance of public service in society and felt encouraged to participate in the democratic process, and be a true voice for all the students.

What's the one thing you'd help improve at school?
I’d like to see more consideration of student ideas for things like events, activities or even important decisions. I’d like to build a bridge between teachers and students.

How do you help others at school?

No matter if the idea is far-fetched or not, I listen, and always bring the suggestion to our discussion table, and where possible to the administration.

What do you hope to achieve as a Student Council member this year?

One of these ideas is a student sentiment survey, to have evidence backing the suggestions of students. I also wish to set up a channel for the Student Council to be in direct communication with the students.

What advice would you give to younger students who want to be leaders?
My first piece of advice, is to never let somebody discourage you from pursuing a role in public service.
My second piece of advice, is to listen. At the end of the day, we are representatives of the students.
